Mourning Dove

Scientific name: Zenaida macroura

The Mourning dove is a slender, medium sized bird. It’s head is rounded and unlike other doves, it has a long and pointed tail.

Architect Frank Lloyd Wright

Fallingwater, the architecture the house is based off of, is a prairie style home made by Frank Lloyd Wright. It’s main features are the hanging part, as it hangs over a waterfall. Frank Lloyd Wright used many rectangles and squares in his designs, so we decided to incorporate that into the design.

The Design Process

In order to create this birdhouse, our group first each made designs individually and then our class decided on six designs to make. Our group’s house was made for the Mourning Dove, and once we got put into our groups we modified the house. At first we didn’t have side walls but then we added them to help protect the bird and added squares to the side wall for design
