Blue Gray Gnat Catcher
Scientific name: Polioptila Caerulea

This bird is blue gray white and a darker grey with a strong, bushy unibrow. This bird is very cautious and defensive of its territory. Their preferred habitat is warmer and sometimes cooler temperatures. These birds usually migrate to Mexico to spend most of the year and then in the summer they retreat to America to mate.

Architecture style

Our birdhouse design is based on the Monticello, a building built for Thomas Jefferson. The design is similar to modern designs, with very neat angles and differing roof styles in different spots. What we take from the Monticello is the hexagonal looking sides, which gives the design a unique look.

The Design Process

There were many steps to this project finding the inspiration and sketching the idea although once Nick thought through his design he decided to CAD the birdhouse or 3D model it because he could not get the structure of how he wanted the house to look through hand drawing. Since we already had the CAD model done we worked on the physical model and finished it in two days and turned in the 3D model and the critique we got was to add finger joints to help the birdhouse stay together and stay more stable.
